The 4th of July weekend is upon us here in Mobridge. Come and see a PRCA rodeo, have a great time at the cornival, and enjoy 2 parades on the 3rd and 4th. Also, on the 3rd join the Rodeo Association at the Scheer-Howe arena for a kids event. Youth will have the opporunity to meet and interact will all the bullfighters and rodeo acts. New Contracts in place for 2010 Sitting Bull Stampede

Stock Contractor - Sutton Rodeos Inc. returning a long standing tradition at the Sitting Bull Stampede of providing quality stock.

Announcer – Scott Grover new in 2010 Scott is two times Dodge Prairie Circuit Finals announcer.

Barrellman/Clown – Dennis Halstead new in 2010 Dennis is two times Canadian Entertainer of the Year and has worked the Calgary Stampede six times along with the Dodge Circuit Finals.

Specialty Act – Blake Goode returns to the Sitting Bull Stampede. Blake entertained the crowd back in 2004 with his National Finals Rodeo act of roman riding on top of two white brahma bulls.

Bullfighters – Allen Dessel and Lance McIlvain return to protect the bull riders as well as entertain the crowd with their bull fighting techniques.

Date set for 2010 Demolition Derby

August 7th will be the 2010 DemolitionDerby held at the Mobridge Rodeo Grounds.

It will be the team concept again this year consisting of 4 cars per team.

Minnesota team wins Mobridge Demolition Derby

Four drivers from Minnesota outlasted 11 other teams to win the Mobridge Demolition Derby at the rodeo grounds on Saturday.

“It was awesome again this year,” said Kurt Neumiller of the Mobridge Rodeo Association.

The winning Rage Racing Team of Lance Prichard, Bob Meier, Brian Cyr and Jedre Cyr collected $4,000 for their hard work. After they advanced by defeating Team Young Guns from Mobridge in the first round, the Rage Racing outlasted a field of seven teams and 27 cars to emerge as this year’s champions. Jedre Cyr added to his day by winning the Mad Dog award for hard-hitting and aggressive driving.

Second place and $2,000 went to Butt-O-Ween, Inc. and drivers Jess Swanson, Kurt Himanga, Kirby Smith and Jeremy Timm. Swanson won the Hardest Hit Award.

Team Dakota Indestructible, which featured Mobridge-grown Aaron Roesler came back through the consolation bracket to take third place and pick up $1,000. Randy Rasmussen, Brett String and Mike Werlinger teamed with Roesler.

Hanging on for fourth place and $500 was the Birkeland Enterprises team of Cody Birkeland, Brady Birkeland, Ryan Stambach and Mike Mahavlick.

A total of 12 teams and 48 cars competed in the main event. Also winning heats and making the championship were: Team Blue with Joe Lehman, Bill Lehman, Casey Lehman and Mike Duenwald; Theory of a Ring Shot with Pat Feiock, Matt Feiock, Tim Sjomeling and Derrick Orth; and Big Daddy Wrecking Crew, Inc., with Jeff Christman, Travis Vetch, Matt Keller and Jace Lipp.

Local driver Tyler Carlson won the Hard Luck Award.

The derby also featured Herbie Car and Pickup Truck heats. Jake Feist won the Herbie Car event and picked up $300. Richard Feist was second and Jason Gustafson third.

Tom Hanley nabbed $300 for winning the Pick-Up Truck heat with Derrick Orth taking second and Aaron Fischer third.

The grandstands at the rodeo grounds were chock-full of derby fans as the attendance for this year’s event reached nearly 1,400.

Winners of Sitting Bull Stampede’s “Pink My Steer”

The Mobridge Rodeo Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 1st Annual “Pink My Steer” event held at the Sitting Bull Stamped on the night of July 3rd. The night of the 3rd is a special night to recognize those that have won their battle with cancer, and to remember the ones that we have lost. To commemorate this evening the Sitting Bull Stampede added a new event…”Pink My Steer” The goal of the teams were to get a steer to the ground and pull a pair of pink boxers on the hind end of it. Once completed, a team member had to run across the arena and grab a flag. This year’s winner was the team sponsored by Five Arrow Quarter Horses. The team consisted of Darrel Schlepp, Jim Straight, David Alley, and Lane Alley.

“Pink My Steer” Update

The Mobridge Rodeo Association is busy finalizing plans for this year’s Sitting Bull Stampede. Rides are starting to show up for the carnival, parade floats are being built, and the rodeo grounds are getting in tip top shape for the 7:30 nightly shows on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Don’t forget, on the night of the 2nd (kids night) the first 300 kids that cross the gates get free cowboy hats courtesy of the Dakota Radio Group. Also the night of the 2nd, there will be face painting by the Mobridge-Pollock Girls basketball team, and kids will be able to get their picture taken with the clowns and contestants prior to the rodeo.

The night of the 3rd, “tough enough to wear pink” night, there will be a balloon release, and the new event, “pink my steer.” Come see area cowboys and not so cowboys participate in this event that promises to be exciting!! Contestants will try to get a pair of pink boxers on the hind end of a 450-550 pound steer…all for your entertainment!!

As always, there will be a fireworks show the night of the fourth, which always entertains the kids and the kids at heart! See you in Mobridge over the 4th of July weekend!

“Pink my Steer” is coming to Mobridge, South Dakota on July 3rd. For the Sitting Bull Stampede’s July 3rd performance, fans in attendance will see a “new” event at the arena. “Pink my Steer” will be happening to help in the efforts of providing funding for research in cancers at the Mobridge Regional Hospital through the foundation. Twelve teams will provide comedy, ranch skill, and great fun to the rodeo fans by trying to pull a pair of pink boxers on the hind end of a 500-600 pound steer.

Want to participate…fight for the cure…Here is how “Pink my Steer” works:

Get a team of 4 people
Find a sponsor ($50 to go to prize and the Mobridge Regional Hospital Foundation)

Come the the Rodeo the night of the 3rd
Stretch out and get ready!!
There will be “your” steer in a chute with a 30 foot rope
We’ll let your steer along with three other team’s steers out
Hang on and keep your steer from getting away!
Bulldog it, flank it, get your 500-600 pound steer to the ground by any means possible
We’ll give you a pair of pink boxers to slip on the hind in of the steer
Finish your time by pulling the steers tail through the appropriate slit on the the boxers!!

Mobridge Rodeo Association Contracts Barrel Man

The Mobridge Rodeo Association is please to announce that they have secured a contract with Rocket Ryan. Rocket Ryan brings a special flavor to the Mobridge Sitting Bull Stampede, and the association is very excited to have signed him.

Bozeman, Montana, Originally from upstate New York, “Rocket Ryan” has made his home off the road in Bozeman, Montana for the last decade. Quickly becoming one of the industry’s most recognizable barrelman, Ryan is a true entertainer combining quick wit, crowd interaction and high energy into each and every performance. Ryan works hard to bring something different to the events he works, he doesn’t believe the same old thing is good for the industry anymore and crosses over traditional barriers to bring our sport into the future. Rodeo Producers, promoters and fans everywhere are taking notice of this exciting young barrelman.

Ryan has been honored with the Northern Rodeo Association’s 2002 “Funnyman Of The Year” award and in 2004 the World Professional Bullriders chose Ryan as their finals barrelman. In 2005 Rocket Ryan earned his PRCA card and began to work with Championship Bull Riding (CBR) as their Team ASE Barrelman and was seen weekly on the Outdoor Channel for two years. Rocket is a two time CBR World Finals Barrelman and has worked every major PBR Enterprise & Challenger tour event in the country. Traveling year round, Rocket Ryan entertains fans at PRCA rodeos and PBR events across the country.

When he is not at a rodeo or bull riding event, Ryan is a hunting guide and an Outdoor television producer, host and cameraman. Rocket Ryan and his Outback Outdoors team have launched a web based hunting show that can be seen at Mossy Oak.com.

Mobridge Rodeo Association Holds Annual Meeting

The Mobridge Rodeo Association held there annual meeting on November 12th, 2008. Items on the agenda included electing of 2009 directors and approval of the 64th Annual Sitting Bull Stampede Rodeo, held on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. There was an unamious vote to hold the PRCA event over the 4th of July weekend. Included with the the rodeo, there will be a carnival on July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and a parade during the celebration.

Directors that were elected for three year terms were Michele Harrison, Randy Runnels, Peg Wendt, Dean Ulmer, and Jesse Konold.
