Tourism Committee to Donate $5000 to Local Groups

With the success of the Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament, the Tourism Committee wants to give back to the community as a “Thank you” for the many volunteers that help with the tournament. The committee is going to donate $5,000 to various Mobridge organizations with award increments to be determined. Applicants should be not for profit entities or volunteer organizations with a specific goal or project in mind.

Please read this document carefully before completing the application. ALL sections must be completed and the application signed electronically. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Supporting documents and/or attachments will not be considered; please do not submit.

Application deadline is March 28th with awarding of donations on April 16th at Chamber after 5. Recipients will be notified during the week of April 8th-12th.

3rd Annual Denny Palmer Memorial Classic

he Mobridge Chamber’s Tourism Committee is please to announce that this year they will be hosting the 3rd Annual Denny Palmer Memorial fishing tournament to be held on June 8th, 2013. Denny’s legacy of being an active guide and promoter of Lake Oahe and the Mobridge area will always be remembered by this event.

Entry for the tournament is $150 and teams can consist of 2 or 3 people. Entry for the tournament is open now. This tournament promises to be a fun-filled event, with fishing during the hottest time of the year to find walleyes on Lake Oahe.

Tournament Update 01/11/2013

Just wanted to give a little update. We had a meeting this morning and as of now we are planning “as is” do to the scale of the tournament and how many participants we have. We are concerned that we won’t be able to inform everyone. We will be monitoring conditions very closely. If there are concerns of not being able to get here at 5:30, we have our Expo open at 11 and close at 3. You can check in during those times.

We are requiring that you “check-in” prior to tomorrow morning. One team member can do this for the team, and there is ample time today to do that. For the major prizes we will require the participants to be present to win. This has been a mainstay of the rules and we felt that we needed to stick with that.

Our launch will still be scheduled at 9 am, but we are extending the “final” time to pick up the buckets until 10.

In order to keep/hold the guaranteed spot for the 2014 the committee is requiring the team to “check-in” and get their buckets Saturday.

Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament Update 01/09/2013

The planning and preparations are almost complete and we are looking forward to hosting 1000 anglers this weekend. Ice conditions are good, but it looks like Mother Nature is throwing us a bit of a curve ball. As of this morning, we were put in a Winter Storm Watch and it looks like we can be expected to get 4-10″ of snow with some pretty good winds Friday afternoon and evening cold and wind Saturday for the tourney. We wanted to make sure that our anglers are aware of the conditions and if driving on Friday please allow for some more time to get to Mobridge.

We also wanted to remind everyone on our Ice Expo that will be opening up on Thursday and will continue on Friday. If you are a participant in the tournament you will be able to register early at the expo and get into the Expo for free. At the expo you will be able to see the latest and greatest in gear for ice fishing and pick up some tips from our panel discussion at 7 pm, Thursday, January 10th. When visiting the expo you will receive a card to have the reps at the booth to sign and once all the signatures are collected by you you will be able to turn it in for a drawing for a brand new Vexilar Double Vision ($1000 value). The expo is also open to the public for a $5 admission and they will also receive a card to be eligible for the drawing.

Ice Fishing Tournament/Ice Update

Good Morning from Mobridge! We are excited as the ice conditions continue to improve. From reports that we have been getting, ice is 11″-14″ with about 2″ of snow cover. Everything for the tournament is falling in place and we are excited to host everyone! We have about 200 raffle tickets left for the prize package. Ice Report for Lake Oahe – 12-28-2012

The reports that we are getting from anglers are 8-12 inches of good, clear ice on the main lake North of Mobridge, there are some vehicles driving in the Grand River (we can’t confirm that). South of Mobridge there is 8″ of ice…looks like it is going to be great! Walleyes are biting, and there are a lot of 12″-14″ with a few 20″+ being caught. If you have been out on the hard water please leave us a comment of the ice conditions that you saw on Lake Oahe!
