There is still a really good bite with most anglers using jigs and minnows in 2-25 feet of water. A few anglers are still using crankbaits here too, with all baits working. Shore fishing is excellent around Mobridge – in fact they seem to be doing as well from shore, or better than those using a boat. Fish seem to be biting almost everywhere around Mobridge

2nd Annual Denny Palmer Memorial Classic

The Mobridge Tourism Committee is excited to announce the opening of the registration for the 2nd Annual Denny Palmer Memorial Classic. The event will be held June 9th, 2012 with rules meeting to be held on June 8th. When we get a poster completed we will be sure to publish it. The tournament will remain a 2 or 3 man team with an entry fee of $150 per team. An added bonus for this year would be that we are going to be awarding 10 guaranteed spots to our Ice Fishing Tournament. More details to follow! Here are the rules and printable registration

Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament – 2013

The Mobridge Chamber’s Tourism Committee has had many meetings and much discussion as to what the direction of the Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament for 2013 should be. After some great input from past anglers and other community members, the committee is pleased with what they have come up with.

For the 2013 tournament to be held Saturday, January 12th the committee has made the following rules/changes in registration, team numbers, and entry fees:

- We will have 500 teams in the tournament

- Entry Fee for the 2013 Tournament will be $125 per team

- We are increasing total cash payout to $10,300 (increasing top payouts by $25 or $50 per place and every 10th place to $125)

- We are going to have 10 automatic entries (after paid registration) available to participants in our Denny Palmer Memorial Classic summer tournament

- If you fished the tournament held in 2011 (not the most recent tournament), your team will get one automatic entry (with paid registration). These team members will be notified via email in late June and they will have until August 31st to confirm with payment and register their team. The committee is going to allow only one entry per team and will be policing for 2011 partners entering separately. If they find that this is the case, both teams will be disqualified, and no longer will be able to participate in ANY Tourism Committee event. If you do not wish to fish with your partner from 2011 it is up to the anglers to figure out who gets that entry. These spots will be guaranteed.

- For the remainder of the spots available, we will conduct a lottery. The lottery will open Mid-September and close the end of the September. There will NOT be a fee for entering into the lottery. The committee is hoping to conduct the lottery the beginning of October and will announce the tournament field when complete.

- For the 2014 tournament, teams that get into the 2013 tournament will have first shot at entering, and the process will start again.

Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament Decision 01-05-2012

The Mobridge Chamber Tourism Committee met in length today to discuss about what to do with the tournament. It was decided that the ‘event’ would go on as planned, BUT that there would not be any endorsed fishing or weigh-ins. With the lack of ice and ever changing conditions of what ice there is, the concern was for the safety of the entrants. The Friday night registration and prize give away will be at the regular published times. All handouts (buckets, food, snacks, & etc.) will be given out Friday night. Saturday will be an open day for entrants to do as they wish. At 6 o’clock on Saturday we will start drawing places for prize money, and other “place” prizes. Will give away the prize money and the rest of the “large” prizes on Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m.

Please be assured that this was not an easy decision for us to come up with, but it is in the best interest of the safety of the anglers that participate. If you have additional questions please contact the Mobridge Chamber at 605-845-2387.

Mobridge Ice Tournament Dates

We have been fielding a lot of calls and emails regarding the dates of the tournament and whether we are looking to changing them for this year. The clear and concise answer is no. The committee feels that it would be a burden to many anglers as they have scheduled vacation time, or have worked covered, and other factors, that we cannot in good faith move the tourney this year. With that being said, we are obviously well aware that ice conditions are not what we would like, nor could have we anticipated. We are looking at all avenues to make this year’s tournament an enjoyable, but more importantly a safe one. We will be keeping everyone updated as to what changes will happen from our January 5th meeting.

Be assured we will be looking out for the best interest of all participants safety and experience. A HUGE thank you to all that have questions and concerns and voicing them. This is a grassroots tournament and it takes all volunteer’s and participant’s thoughts and ideas to make it a tourney that we all enjoy.

Ice Tournament Update

The tourism committee had a meeting today, and we do have some alternative plans that we are thinking about. Nothing is set in stone as things can change in 24 days. Be assured that once something is decided on, we will keep everyone posted. Our next meeting is January 5th at that time we should have a better feel on ice conditions and plans.

As for current ice conditions. From Blue Blanket South, there is open water. There is also some open water under the bridges. There have been people fishing in the Grand River and Oak Creek. It sounds like the ice is certainly better North of town.
