Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament Decision 01-05-2012

by chamber2387 ~ January 5, 2012

The Mobridge Chamber Tourism Committee met in length today to discuss about what to do with the tournament.  It was decided that the ‘event’ would go on as planned, BUT that there would not be any endorsed fishing or weigh-ins.  With the lack of ice and ever changing conditions of what ice there is, the concern was for the safety of the entrants.  The Friday night registration and prize give away will be at the regular published times.  All handouts (buckets, food, snacks, & etc.) will be given out Friday night.  Saturday will be an open day for entrants to do as they wish.  At 6 o’clock on Saturday we will start drawing places for prize money, and other “place” prizes.  Will give away the prize money and the rest of the “large” prizes on Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m.

Please be assured that this was not an easy decision for us to come up with, but it is in the best interest of the safety of the anglers that participate.  If you have additional questions please contact the Mobridge Chamber at 605-845-2387.

We are still looking forward to an attempt to fish through the ice up there… Been a nutty year for weather, that’s for sure. It has felt like summer here in Pierre over the last couple days. If ice conditions worsen, then I guess the only thing to do is drink more beer?… :)

Hey its life. I would rather everyone come out safe and have fun. There will always be next year to fish. Thank You Mobridge for looking out for the safety of all involved.

I just want to give the board alot of credit. It was a big decision to be made and I agree with you. Safety first!!! We will give it another shot next year. Thanks for the great job you all do to make this the “BEST” tournament around!!!!

  6. JEFFERS Says:

    Boo Hiss!!!!!!!

  7. Buddy the Elf Says:

How about we get together for a bowling tourney on Saturday afternoon, or better yet a minnow eating competition!! We can all still have some fun and support Mobridge businesses. Thanks to the Chamber and Committee for there work. It will still be a great time and tournament!!

  8. Justin Says:

We’ll still probably make the 200 mile trip. Depending on the weather we might even bring the boat I guess…

Question: Do you have to be present to win the cash prizes and large prizes? Obviously the raffle’s for the Ice House and such are still the same, but what about the prizes given out on Saturday night?

  9. chamber2387 Says:

Thanks Justin, you do need to be present to win all prizes other than the “prize package” and the one ice lodge that we raffled.

  10. Justin Says:

Thanks for the quick response. Are you guys kicking around any possible activities for Saturday during the day? I don’t know what to suggest, but you guys are pretty good at turning this thing out every year so I thought you might come up with some non-tournament related “activities” for Saturday. Something like a poker tournament or some sort of social gathering would be fun.

If not, no big deal. We’ll watch the weather and see what we’ll bring down.

  11. chamber2387 Says:

We are looking at some other things to do. I know that other businesses in town are looking into having some other “activities” we will keep you posted!

  12. JEFFERS Says:

I like the guys idea about a minnow eating competition. Maybe a canasta tourney could be arranged during the day on Saturday and a Jenga tournament for those who do not like Canasta. 900 ice fisherman playing twister sounds like a crazy time. Right hand red!!?? How will I hold my beer!

  13. Thanks Says:

So what you are saying is that I have to come to Mobridge, wake up later than what I did last year, catch probably the exact same amount of fish that I did last year, Drink the same amount of beer as I did last year, and I don’t have to lug my junk around and freeze. Let’s do this NEXT YEAR! If this is the worst thing that could happen, why wouldn’t you go to the Mobridge Ice Fishing Tournament? Thank you Chamber for making the right decision. Undoubtedly saved lives with this decision!

  14. Thanks Says:

oh yeah, and I still might win?

  15. George Says:

I know this is the biggest thing in Mobridge all year long, but for us that are driving from MN, WY, ND, IA holding everything Fri night leaves us time to get back home. What a waste of a day on Sat!

  16. Scott Says:

Headed up this Saturday from Cheyenne to do some prefishing as always. Bringing long poles this though ;)

  17. Scott Says:

Headed up this Saturday from Cheyenne to do some prefishing as always. Bringing long poles this year though ;)

  18. Kyle Van Emmerik Says:

I’ll still be up there on Tuesday for some pre-drinking…I mean pre-fishing. You guys made the right call, just to dangerous to have a huge tournament with ice and weather conditions like this. The important question is are the fishing buddy calander girls still going to be there this year?!

  19. chad Says:

Thanks to Mobridge chamber for putting safety first. I have enjoyed the tourney the last eight years and hopfully many more. Give yourself a pat on the back Mobridge. The only change the Tourney needs to address is how to run the entry fairly. See you in Mobridge.

  20. LeRoy Naescher Says:

Congrats the the Mobridge chamber. A great decision that should be appreciated by all particiants. I think everyone can still have alot of fun and that is what tournaments are for. I wasn’t in the tournament this year, but I always follow it. Mobridge might not have enough ice, but the wheels are always turning.

  21. JAY Says:

GOOD CALL, THIS WAY EVERYONE WILL GET TO FISH MORE IN 2012

  22. team 301 Says:

The decision of holding the tournament without the fishing was the right one.. Only wish everything would be done on Friday Night instead of having us sit around all day Saturday to wait for the raffles. This would save use $$$ on motel rooms and getting home earlier..

  23. Barry Says:

It might be a good idea to have a big poker touramont at several places and take some money out of the pot for c.c.

  24. Ryan Says:

Good decision Mobridge Chamber. Safety first and foremost.

  25. Richard Says:
