Water levels at Mobridge, SD

by chamber2387 ~ April 23, 2009

As of this morning the Corps of Engineers reported that Lake Oahe’s elevation is at 1611.71.  After many years of drought, and light snow melt runoff, the reservoir was close to 35 feet below normal.  However now it is now above its normal elevation, and many predictions of having full capacity (elevation of 1620) in June.  This is great news for fisherman and water sport enthusiasts.  As of now all boat ramps that have been shut down due to low water conditions are now open.  With all of the excitement of the increase in water levels, the public should remember that there will be more floating debris so take caution when boating.  The water clarity is also a concern right now.  With the influx of water from flooding, the reservoir has very dirty water compared to years past, but will soon clear up as the run off slows down.
